DENVER—Land managers across Colorado are restricting outside fires because of worries about dry conditions that helped fuel two major wildfires.
The Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests in central and northern Colorado are banning fires outside developed recreation areas, smoking outside developed recreation sites and driving off Forest Service roads except when parking in areas with no vegetation within 10 feet of the road.
The Pike National Forest and U.S. Bureau of Land Management office in southern Colorado are imposing similar restrictions.
Boulder, Larimer and at least six other counties have imposed bans or restrictions on outdoor fires since wildfires broke out near Boulder and Loveland.
The 6,200-acre fire west of Boulder has been contained and the fire west of Loveland is 65 percent contained.
