An English teacher who spent two weeks on paid administrative leave was back in the classroom Tuesday, but at least one parent told 9News that he should not be there.

Mullen High School president Bob Regan said some students in the teacher’s class indicated that they became uncomfortable during an Aug. 30 lecture where the teacher used racial content from a work of literature that included a racial epithet. He confirmed the teacher used the n-word in class as part of the context of the story.

Regan said as soon as he heard about the comments he dealt with the issue, placing the teacher on administrative leave. The teacher apologized to the students in the class.

A parent, Cary Reed, told 9News that placing the teacher on two weeks paid administrative leave is not enough punishment. Reed said that during a meeting set up by the school, the teacher admitted to having had racist thoughts and feelings.
