Southwest Airlines reported Thursday that it flew 6.1 billion revenue passenger miles in September, a 5.1 percent increase from the 5.8 billion RPMs flown in the same period in 2009. An RPM is one paying passenger flown 1 mile, a standard measure in the airline industry.
Available seat miles — a measure of capacity — increased 4.7 percent to 8.1 billion from 7.7 billion in September 2009.
