Denver police arrested two men Wednesday as they tried to sell storm grates at a Denver scrap yard, according to Matt Murray, a police spokesman.
The suspects were interviewed and detained on suspicion of felony theft. The two have not been identified.
In the past week, as many as 16 storm grates have been stolen in the area between East Ninth and East 14th avenues and between Monaco Parkway and Holly Street.
Denver police were able to recover the majority of the storm grates, although they already had been replaced at a cost of $200 each.
City officials estimate that at current market prices for cast iron, a 155-pound storm grate could have been sold for $8 to $12.
The city of Aurora has had more than 20 storm grates stolen in the past two weeks.
