A Denver man faces charges of first-degree assault and felony menacing after police say he shot a man and threatened a woman at Confluence Park on Sept. 19.
Police said that 19-year-old Joseph Breese waved a gun and yelled at the woman from inside a white Chevrolet Suburban. According to the arrest affidavit, the woman told police the suspect exited the vehicle just after 11 p.m. and fired at a group of people watching a juggling performance, wounding one man. She told police that the shooter then returned to the vehicle and drove away.
According to the affidavit, an employee at a nearby store wrote down the vehicle’s license plate number, which police traced to Breese. The woman told police she didn’t know if the suspect was firing specifically at the male victim or not.
The male victim survived but has not cooperated with the investigation.
Breese will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
