DENVER—A Denver police officer has been arrested on suspicion of coercing a woman under arrest into performing a sex act to avoid going to jail.
Police arrested 31-year-old Hector Paez Monday. Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey’s office and police say Paez will be charged later this week with second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault and attempt to influence a public servant.
Paez had been suspended since May 19 when a 36-year-old woman came forward with the allegation. The woman told investigators Paez arrested her and took her to an isolated area where the alleged assault happened May 16.
Paez, who appeared in court Tuesday, is being held at the Douglas County jail on $100,000 bail.
Paez declined an interview request made through jail administrators.
