DENVER—A judge sentenced a 27-year-old woman to life in prison for killing a woman by running over her with a car in a Burger King parking lot.

A Denver jury convicted Nadine Montoya Carter last month of first-degree murder, vehicular homicide and other charges for the death of 49-year-old Lilian Verdonkschot. Prosecutors say Montoya used her car to run over Verdonkschot after a confrontation at a Burger King drive-through on May 2009.

Carter was sentenced Thursday during a hearing in which she apologized to everyone in the case. Verdonkschot’s daughter also spoke at the sentencing.
