CHICAGO — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. said Monday that he would not run for Chicago mayor in the upcoming election.
In a statement released to the Chicago Tribune, Jackson said he has “many friends and colleagues” who might run for the office.
Jackson, 45, last month denied allegations that a fundraiser close to him and former Gov. Rod Blagojevich implicated the congressman in a scheme to buy the U.S. Senate seat once occupied by President Barack Obama.
