James Keith Sack was sentenced to 36 years in prison today for the murder of his wife in their Littleton apartment last November.
Sack, 38, called 9-1-1 and reported that he had killed his wife, 26-year-old Yesenia Avila.
When police arrived they found Sack lying “bleeding and incoherent” on top of his wife. He had also stabbed himself several times.
Sack pleaded guilty on Sept. 2 to second-degree murder and second-degree assault. According to prosecutors, he stabbed his wife with a 10-inch filet knife because she was considering leaving him.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office sought a 60-year sentence.
Prosecutor Tim Lane called the murder “cold, intentional and without justification.”
