A 24-year-old Fort Morgan man surrendered late Tuesday morning after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend and making threats with a gun, according to the Fort Morgan Police Department.
Christopher Neel, barricaded himself in a residence in the 200 block of Walnut Street after his ex-girlfriend fled the residence after allegedly being assaulted by him, police said.
During the two-hour standoff, police learned that Neel was wanted for aggravated robbery with a weapon, felony menacing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
A Fort Morgan police negotiator along with assistance of Neel’s family was able to contact Neel by phone and request that he surrender.
Lt. Darin Sagel, spokesman for the police department, said the department’s special response team responded to the scene as a precaution.
Also responding were the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department and the Colorado State Patrol.
Sagel said that Neel is currently at the Morgan County Detention Center. In addition to the charges he already faces, additional charges of domestic violence, harassment and obstruction may be filed, Sagel said.
