DENVER—Military officials say two Marines who were killed in Afghanistan on Thursday were from Colorado and Arizona.
The Department of Defense said Saturday that 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Brandon W. Pearson, of Arvada, Colo., and 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Matthew J. Broehm, of Flagstaff, Ariz., were killed in combat in Helmand province.
Both were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
The Denver Post and KUSA-TV report that Pearson was set to end his military service in September.
