GYPSUM — A 33-mile wildlife fence along Interstate 70 in Eagle County is complete.

The fence from Gypsum to Dowd Junction cost almost $1.9 million. The project includes two median crossovers to allow animals to cross I-70 and 58 wildlife escape ramps.

The (Glenwood Springs) Post Independent newspaper reported that between 2002 and 2006, wildlife-vehicle collisions accounted for 18 percent of all collisions along this stretch of I-70.
