DENVER—The Colorado state key made of precious materials from across the state is on display at the state Capitol after 25 years in storage.

The key is about 5 inches long and is insured for $25,000. It was the creation of former Gov. Dick Lamm and Hyde Park Jewelers.

The key is made of gold, silver, yellow sapphires, blue sapphires, and nearly 5 carats of diamonds has been kept in storage by the Colorado Historical Society.

Lamm asked that the key be made after he learned the state didn’t have one, but don’t look for anyone getting the key to the state anytime soon. It’s in the Capitol rotunda in a secure display box, unveiled Tuesday by Gov. Bill Ritter.
