SYDNEY — Qantas Airlines chief executive Alan Joyce says up to 40 Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines need to be replaced in the global fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbos after an incident in which an engine broke apart in midair.
Joyce reportedly told journalists today that the airline was in talks with Airbus about its fleet of A380s, which have been grounded since the Nov. 4 incident. Qantas spokesman Simon Rushton confirmed Joyce’s comments.
