A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred about 4 a.m. Monday in the 1800 block of Grove Street in northwest Denver.

The suspect was identified as Darold Hinojos, 33.

Police said Hinojos had been going from house to house looking for a “female acquaintance.”

A male resident of one of the homes was fatally stabbed when he answered his door, Denver police spokesman John White said.

Officers responding to the area found the victim, who was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, White said.

When the resident answered the door, he and the assailant “became involved in a physical altercation, which resulted in the victim sustaining a fatal stab wound,” White said.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Hinojos was arrested about 1:30 p.m., White said.

Colorado court records show Hinojos has a lengthy criminal record dating to 1999. Many of the charges have been for domestic violence and trespassing. Multiple charges against Hinojos of child abuse and disorderly conduct were dismissed earlier this year.
