Today marks the first chance for Coloradans to fill their living rooms with the scent of a freshly-cut Christmas tree from the Canyon Lakes Ranger District.

The area, near Red Feather Lakes, requires a $10 permit in order to cut a tree. The permits are available at the Canyon Lakes Ranger District office in Fort Collins, the Pawnee National Grassland office in Greeley, the Boulder Ranger District office in Boulder, and at the cutting site on weekends. Tree-hunters must bring their own tools to cut the trees, and no chainsaws are allowed.

The area will be open for tree-cutting daily from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m until Dec. 12.
