A Colorado State Patrol trooper was injured this morning in a multi-vehicle crash on I-25 north of Pueblo.

The injured trooper, who was not identified, was out of his patrol car working on crash about 8 miles north of Pueblo when a string of crashes unfolded, said Sgt. John Hahn, a state patrol spokesman.

“The trooper was out of his patrol car assisting the passenger of a vehicle that struck the guardrail when that car was hit and pushed into him,” Hahn said.

The trooper suffered “moderate” injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Hahn said.

The crashes occurred at about 5:15 a.m. on both sides of the highway, northbound and southbound, and the highway was shutdown, Hahn said.

The highway was “slick” at the time and the crashes, which involved at least eight vehicles, were likely the result of people driving too fast for the conditions, Hahn said.
