After 10 years as a senior vice president at Western Union in Denver, Fred Niehaus is leaving in January to start an international public advocacy consulting firm.
The new venture, InterActive Global Solutions LLC, will focus on helping clients working in migrant markets here and abroad forge relationships and alliances with businesses, law enforcement, governments and ethnic communities worldwide.
“It’s to work with corporate and public policy issues, community outreach and bring it all together to identify issues, define them and resolve them,” said Niehaus, 55.
The firm will have an array of partners in various domestic and foreign cities — São Paolo; Dublin; Budapest, Hungary; Washington; and Mexico City — with considerable experience in business and foreign relations.
In the United States, Niehaus will partner with Chicago resident Michael Axelrod, whose father David Axelrod is a senior adviser to President Barack Obama.
A former special assistant for economic development under former Colorado Gov. Roy Romer, Niehaus helped restructure the state’s economic development programs and was the state’s lead negotiator with several major corporations.
He has recently been named a member of the advisory board to the Alliance Partnership, where American attorneys general and state law enforcement professionals provide training to Mexican prosecutors, police and government officials in an effort to boost that country’s security and legal climate.
At Western Union, Niehaus has directed several collaborative programs in finance, law enforcement and community development in Mexico.
“I want to take what I’ve collected over the years to the next level,” he said.
