A 51-year-old Westminster man was killed 31 miles north of Cheyenne on Sunday after driving in the wrong lane of U.S. 85, the Wyoming Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Lawrence D. Ott was driving his Chevy Blazer northbound in the southbound lane of U.S. 85. about 5:45 a.m. when a driver in the southbound lane towing a car on a dolly saw him and flashed his headlights. Ott failed to move back into his lane and hit the on-coming vehicle head-on, according to the highway patrol.
The southbound vehicle — a Ford F-350 pickup — and the car on the dolly behind it remained upright, but Ott’s vehicle rolled, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
The four people in the southbound vehicle were treated and released. Ott was declared dead at the scene.
Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt.
