When you think of traditional hair bands, you think of what? White Snake. Motley Crew. Great White. Maybe Def Leppard.
You think of ripping guitar anthems, falsettos out of nowhere and tight black pants. You are not thinking about Christmas. Unless moms and pops stuffed your stocking with tickets to Loverboy’s summer comeback tour.
Wednesday at the was all about hair, hair and Christmas.
, TSO for the true fans, rocked two sold-out shows at the Pepsi Center Wednesday. Never mind the color coordinated wardrobe, the bad rhymes or the at-times mega church feeling (which can only be found at the Ted Haggard’s old mega church in Colorado Springs). TSO rocked — hard, even.
In a mesh of classical music and metal, the band told their own version of the “Christmas Story,” peppering classics such as “Hark the Herald Angles Sing,” “O Holy Night,” “Joy to the World” and songs from “The Nutcracker” through their set — all the while driving home the Christmas spirit in a mask of dry ice and pyrotechnics.
The stage show was also immaculate, with moving ramps and risers and members of the orchestra walking out to play in the middle of the audience.
TSO will continue to record great classical music, but it’s their unique brand of Christmas music that fills every seat at a mega-venue like the Pepsi Center.
