FORT COLLINS, Colo.—A Larimer County teenager who fatally stabbed his stepfather won’t face criminal charges. The killing has been determined self-defense.

The (Fort Collins) Coloradoan reports that the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office won’t bring charges against 19-year-old Michael Rae. Rae stabbed 67-year-old Donnie Finley several times on Sept. 12 with a small pocket knife after Finley brandished a gun and shot Rae’s mother in the hand.

The Coloradoan reports that the Finley and Carrie Rae were in the process of a divorce. Finley allegedly pointed a gun at Michael Rae’s face, and Carrie Rae was shot when she grabbed for the gun.

Michael Rae then stabbed Finley, who died of his injuries a day later.
