Lakewood police were in a standoff with a suspect late Friday night after exchanging gunfire near West 13th Place and Kline Street.
Lakewood police spokeswoman Andrea Joo said police were called to a domestic disturbance about 10 p.m. When they arrived, a man, apparently armed with a rifle, fired at them from a house. No officers were injured.
A reverse emergency call was issued, warning residents to stay in their homes for their safety, Joo said.
SWAT units were deployed, and police were attempting to begin negotiations. Police said a woman in the house had escaped but would not confirm reports that children might still be inside.
