FREDERICK — A fire Monday heavily damaged the community center of the Prairie Green subdivision.

Frederick-Firestone Division Chief Tim Zimmerman said flames had breached the roof of the center at 6201 Frederick Way by the time the first units arrived. The roof had partially collapsed.

The blaze required three alarms to bring under control. A total of five fire departments and 40 firefighters were called to the scene.

No firefighters or civilians were injured. The cause is under investigation.

Zimmerman said no other structures were threatened because the community building sits by itself surrounded by a large lawn.
