LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—The University of Arkansas at Little Rock officials say basketball coach Steve Shields has been suspended by the Sun Belt Conference for one game, and won’t be on the sidelines Thursday when the Trojans take on Louisiana-Monroe.

A UALR news release Wednesday said the suspension followed an investigation of a post-game incident at Denver on Jan. 2, when the Trojans lost 72-70 in overtime.

The release said league officials decided that Shield’s actions following the game violated the conference’s sporting-behavior policy. The release did not say what happened after the game was over. UALR athletics spokesman Joe Angolia said the school would not elaborate on the release.

UALR athletic director Chris Peterson said he had met with Shields about the matter, and the coach understands the consequences of his actions.
