Three Denver police officers have been named in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal District Court for allegedly beating a then-19-year-old man during a traffic stop in January 2009.
According to a copy of the complaint, first posted Wednesday on , the lawsuit asserts that the officers beat Alexander Landau unconscious with their fists, a radio and a flashlight after pulling him over on suspicion of an illegal left turn.
Pictures included in the complaint show Landau in a neck brace with his face covered in blood and one eye swollen shut.
Officers Randy Murr, Ricky Nixon and Tiffany Middleton appear on the filing as individual defendants. The complaint also names Denver Police Chief Gerald Whitman and the city and county of Denver as defendants for being “moving forces in the complained of constitutional and statutory violations and resulting injuries.” The complaint states that the officers reported that Landau attempted to disarm one officer, a charge the complaint says is false. Denver police could not be reached for comment. Kyle Glazier, The Denver Post
