COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—An aviation investigator says no engine problems were found in a small civilian plane that crashed in Colorado in December, killing an Air Force B-1B bomber pilot and his wife.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Dan Baker told The Gazette of Colorado Springs on Tuesday that the cause still hasn’t been determined.

Air Force Capt. Martin Anthony Riggan Jr. and Nicole Riggan died when the single-engine Mooney M20E crashed at Colorado Springs Municipal Airport on Dec. 22.

Riggan was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.

The NTSB says a freezing fog covered the airport and other pilots reported light ice buildup on their aircraft. Ice increases a plane’s weight and may alter its handling.
