An Aurora police officer convicted last year of driving under the influence while off duty has been fired by the department.
In June, Marc Christopher Sears, 37, was found guilty of driving under the influence and careless driving in a 2009 incident.
“He has been terminated,” Bob Friel, an Aurora Police Department spokesman, confirmed Thursday.
Friel declined to provide a cause for dismissal, citing personnel confidentiality.
Sears served with the department from June 2004 until he was fired Jan. 5, Friel said.
Sears was convicted in June of DUI for crashing his motorcycle in Parker on May 24, 2009. He is appealing the conviction.
In March 2010, while awaiting trial, Sears crashed his SUV into a light pole, also in Parker. In that case, an initial charge of driving under the influence was dismissed by prosecutors, and in September, Sears pleaded guilty to careless driving, according to court records.
