GREELEY — A woman arrested for her alleged involvement in six northern Colorado robberies in the past month that netted more than $11,000, told police that she and her boyfriend “deserved” the money because they’d had a tough life.

Amanda Maslen, 20, and her boyfriend, Jordan Kniffen, 22, told police they spent much of their stolen money on heroin. In appearances in Weld District Court on Friday, Kniffen’s bail was set at $400,000 and Maslen’s at $210,000. The Weld district attorney has until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to formally charge them.

According to court affidavits, Maslen told investigators that no one was hurt in the robberies because the gun wasn’t loaded and her boyfriend (Kniffen) “was only stealing from the government or the FDIC.”

The couple was arrested Thursday night after a bank teller at the Credit Union of Colorado placed the money in the robber’s bag, along with an electronic device that enabled police to track the stolen cash.

The couple is charged in four robberies in Greeley, and one each in Evans and Loveland.

According to the court affidavits, Kniffen went on all except the last robbery alone, but in the Thursday robbery, he told Maslen that he would feel better knowing she was close by in the getaway car, waiting for him.
