A bill to deregulate the Denver taxicab business and open the way for more competition was introduced Wednesday by state Sen. Ted Harvey, R-Highlands Ranch.

“Colorado government needs to stop the practice of picking winners and losers in the private sector,” Harvey said in a statement.

Under current law, any new cab company must gain approval from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. The process allows competing cab companies to comment on applications.
