DETROIT — A gunman opened fire inside a Detroit police precinct Sunday, wounding four officers before he was shot and killed by police, authorities said.

The gunman walked in shortly after 4 p.m. and opened fire, police said. The officers fired back, killing him. Police Chief Ralph Godbee said the commander, two sergeants and an officer were wounded, but none appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

Godbee said officials knew the gunman’s identity but did not release it. They did not know the motive.
