BALTIMORE — Slugger Vladimir Guerrero agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
The deal, contingent on Guerrero passing a physical, is worth $8 million. He has 436 homers and 1,433 RBIs in 15 major-league seasons.
Guerrero, 35, hit .300 with 29 homers and 115 RBIs with the Rangers last season and almost certainly will become Baltimore’s designated hitter.
Luke Scott, who led the Orioles with 27 homers last season, likely will be moved from designated hitter to left field.
• Justin Duchscherer finalized a one-year contract with the Orioles that guarantees the right-hander $700,000 and allows him to earn up to $4.5 million.
The 33-year-old missed the entire 2009 season because of an elbow injury and clinical depression. He pitched in only five games with Oakland last April before undergoing surgery on his left hip. He is 33-25 with a 3.13 ERA over eight seasons.
Edmonds, Cardinals reunited
ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals and 40-year-old outfielder Jim Edmond agreed to a minor- league contract.
A clutch performer with the Cardinals from 2000-07 at the plate and in center field, Edmonds, whose 241 home runs with St. Louis rank fourth on the franchise’s career list, is a potential backup behind Matt Holliday, Colby Rasmus and Lance Berkman.
Edmonds is seven homers shy of 400 and 51 hits shy of 2,000. He split last season with the Brewers and Reds, batting .276 with 11 home runs and 23 RBIs in 246 at-bats.
