Two puppies reportedly stolen from Puppies-N-Stuff in Northglenn with the assistance of a child last week have been recovered and a 24-year-old man has been arrested.

Northglenn police said Darrell Emery was booked for investigation of theft by receiving and then released.

Northglenn Det. Kellon Hassenstab said police are still looking for the two adults and the child who stole the dogs on Feb. 5.

“We’re still looking for the bad guys,” Hassenstab said.

Pet store owner Sandy McDonald told 9News that a child acted as the accomplice to two adults who stole the Chihuahua, priced at more than $300, and the Jack Russell, valued at $400.

The theft was captured by video surveillance equipment in the store. The video shows one of the adults diverting the attention of store employees while the child zips the Chihuahua under her jacket.

“To have a little kid do it, that’s just wrong,” McDonald said.

McDonald said security cameras were installed in the store to help detect similar thefts.

She said last year, a woman stowed two puppies in an infant carrier.

“About a year ago, a lady came in with an infant carrier, with a little blanket over the baby,” McDonald said. “Turns out, there was no baby.”

Anyone with information about the theft can call Hassenstab at 303-450-8855.
