Sunshine, blue skies and snow-covered peaks to the west frame Denver in a postcard setting today, but frigidly cold weather blankets the city as well.

The high temperature in the city today should top out at about 27 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and wind chills will drop to minus 20 degrees at times.

At noon, the temperature in the city was 14 degrees.

The cold will stick around through the night in Denver, with the overnight low forecast to be 7 degrees and wind chill factors as low as minus 4, the weather service said.

In the mountains, scattered low clouds and snow showers will linger today west of the Continental Divide.

Today’s high temperature in Vail should be about 13 degrees under partly sunny skies.

Tomorrow should be mostly sunny in Denver with a high temperature of 34 degrees. The warming trend should continue through the weekend with high temperatures in the 50s on Saturday and Sunday.
