A final environmental impact statement for the FasTracks transit expansion in north Denver is now ready to be reviewed by the public.
Public hearings are also scheduled to gather comment on the impact statement, officially called the North Metro Corridor Final Environmental Impact Statement — also called the FEIS.
The first hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., at Skyview High School, 8990 York St., in Thornton. A second hearing is slated for Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at the Denver Coliseum, main concourse, 4600 Humboldt St., in Denver.
North Metro’s preferred alternative includes a single track with five passing tracks beginning at Denver Union Station, moving north for about 18 miles, and ending just north of State Highway 7, or West 160th Avenue, in Thornton.
The North Metro Corridor includes Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) vehicle technology and eight new stations in addition to Denver Union Station.
Once complete, the North Metro rail line will serve Denver, Commerce City, Thornton, Northglenn and unincorporated Adams County.
The North Metro Corridor is part of the overall RTD FasTracks plan to build 122 miles of new rail transit, 18 miles of bus rapid transit and enhanced bus services and park-n-Rides through the Denver metro area.
However, funding for the project is still being discussed.
The final EIS is also available for review online at (click on North Metro) and at various metro libraries.
