SWAT officers and a police dog removed a man from his Loveland home last night after he injured his wife with a paring knife.

At 8:50 p.m. police responded to a domestic disturbance at 1005 Short Leaf Court, according to a news release from the Loveland Police Department.

After arriving at the home, officers learned that Robert Sierra, 50, and his wife were arguing when Sierra grabbed a paring knife and threatened her with it.

The wife was injured by the knife when Robert pushed her down on the couch, according to police.

The injury was not serious.

Police said the wife and the couple’s 13-year-old daughter ran out of the home.

When police arrived, Sierra had barricaded himself inside the home. A few SWAT team members monitored the perimeter of the home until search and arrest warrants could be obtained.

Once the warrants were approved, SWAT entered the home and found Sierra hiding in a storage area under the staircase to the basement. When he resisted arrested, a police dog was used to help remove him.

Sierra was bitten by the dog and taken into custody soon after.

After he was treated for the dog bite, he was taken to the Larimer County Jail and charged with second degree assault, domestic violence, menacing and resisting arrest.
