DENVER—The nation’s most extensive regulations for how medical marijuana should be sold are nearly complete in Colorado.
An official with the state Department of Revenue has signed off on nearly 100 pages of regulations governing everything from how commercial marijuana should be grown, to security measures designed to make sure medical pot doesn’t end up on the black market.
Barring a legal challenge from the state attorney general or legislative lawyers, the regulations take effect July 1.
The department official made a minor change to how dispensaries record transactions, but businesses will still have to record who is buying what. Safety regulations remain, including the nation’s first legal guidelines for the safe production of hashish.
The Legislature is considering some additional requirements this session.
