SNOWMASS VILLAGE — Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday greeted volunteers registering for the 25th annual National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass Village.
More than 600 volunteers participate in the week-long clinic, which attracts almost 400 disabled veterans.
The vice president, who is spending the weekend in a private home on the edge of Snowmass, spent about an hour visiting with the volunteers.
Clinic director Sandy Trombetta said he would love to have Biden attend the opening ceremony today as the veterans mingle over a casual dinner on the Snowmass Mall.
During the clinic, disabled veterans of past and current wars will alpine and Nordic ski, play sled hockey, tackle a climbing wall, enjoy dog-sled rides and shoot some hoops. More than half of the attendees, who range in age from 18 to older than 80, are in wheelchairs.
Visual impairments, amputations and mental disabilities also are common. The Denver Post and The Aspen Times
