A brush fire believed to have been sparked by a downed power line near Interstate 25 and Ridgegate Parkway in the Lone Tree area was under control at 4:25 p.m. today.

The fire burning in open space didn’t pose a threat to homes, said Dept. Fire Marshal Anthony Valdez, of South Metro Fire Rescue. Firefighters evacuated a dog park close to the fire, however.

The fire grew from four acres earlier this afternoon to 100 and firefighters requested a helicopter for air support, Valdez said.

Firefighters believe a downed power line started the blaze. Employees of Xcel Energy are at the scene, Valdez said.
