A man being held in jail as a sexual assault suspect in Larimer County has been identified through DNA as a suspect in an additional sex assault case.
Herbert Daily, 38, faces additional felony charges after investigators connected him to a Jan. 23 burglary and assault in the 300 block of East Plum Street, according to the Fort Collins Police Department.
The 23-year-old victim in the Plum Street case reported being burglarized, but she did not know she was sexually assaulted at the time, police said.
The night of the burglary the victim had earlier consumed alcoholic beverages at a local bar and had not realized she was assaulted, police said in a media release.
Tests performed afterward found DNA that matches Daily’s, police announced.
“The victim does not know the suspect and did not have consensual sex with him,” the release said.
Investigators believe Daily entered the apartment through an unlocked door, sexually assault the victim and then stole personal items.
Daily is also the suspect in a Feb. 8 sex assault of a 20-year-old woman in her home on the 600 block of Remington Street. Daily was arrested on Feb. 28 in the Remington Street case and has been in custody since.
Police describe Daily as a transient and registered sex offender.
Daily faces multiple felony charges including burglary, theft, attempted unauthorized use of a financial transaction device and multiple counts of sexual assault.
