ANAHEIM, Calif. — Anaheim got its first goal Monday night on Teemu Selanne’s penalty shot at 47 seconds of the second period, awarded because Colorado defenseman John-Michael Liles covered the puck in the crease.

Selanne beat Colorado goal- tender Brian Elliott high to the glove side, cutting the Avalanche’s lead to 2-1. The goal made Selanne 2-for-6 on penalty shots in his career, but his only other success came on his first career chance — for the Winnipeg Jets against Tampa Bay on March 9, 1993.

Returns.

Defenseman Matt Hunwick, who missed two games with a back issue, and center Mark Olver, who was out for one game with a head injury, returned to the Avalanche lineup against Anaheim. The healthy scratches were defenseman Shawn Belle, center Philippe Dupuis and winger Brandon Yip. Yip hasn’t scored a goal since getting two against St. Louis on Jan. 24.

Defensemen Ryan Wilson (knee) and Adam Foote (leg) both were on the trip, taking treatment and doing off-ice work, but neither took part in the morning skate Monday.

Frozen Four.

The results of the weekend NCAA hockey regionals meant that the Avalanche will have two draft choices playing in the April 7-9 Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn.

North Dakota forward Brad Malone, now best known in Colorado for his hit on the University of Denver’s Jesse Martin, was an Avalanche fourth-round choice in 2007. Michigan freshman forward Luke Moffatt was Colorado’s seventh-round pick last year.

In addition, Michigan goalie Shawn Hunwick is the younger brother of Matt Hunwick, a former Wolverine.
