DENVER—A money-saving proposal to merge the Colorado Division of Wildlife and Colorado State Parks is a step closer to reality.
A Senate committee voted 7-0 in favor of the proposal Thursday afternoon. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper says the divisions should be combined to save money. Some sportsmen have raised issues with the merger, but the head of the state Department of Natural Resources backed the idea Thursday. The merger faces one more committee test before going to the full Senate.
Hickenlooper has said the merger could save the state $3 million to $4 million a year. If approved, the change would take effect this summer.
