As predicted, the air was warm for the Rockies home opener at Coors Field in Denver today.

The forecast high of 72 degrees — 15 degrees warmer than normal for April 1 — was a bit optimistic. Some clouds kept temperatures below 70 degrees.

Tonight is expected to be partly cloudy with a low around 43 degrees as windy conditions return, with some gusts expected to be up to 23 mph, the National Weather Service predicted.

The warm temperatures and sunshine will carry into tomorrow, when the predicted high of 78 degrees would set a new record.

The record temperature for April 2 of 76 degrees was last reached in 1996.

But the sunny skies are expected to fade as clouds roll in tomorrow evening, bringing with them cooler temperatures and wind.

Sunday’s high is expected to be near 68 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of rain and snow before 9 p.m. The chances for precipitation improve to 50 percent overnight.

And come Monday, the Weather Service predicts a high temperature of 43 degrees and a 20 percent chance of snow.
