Police arrested a man yesterday in Colorado Springs who turned out NOT to be a burglar.
At 12:03 yesterday afternoon officers from the Sand Creek Division responded to a call about a burglary in progress in he 2500 block of St. Vrain Street, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s crime blotter.
Witnesses reported watching the suspects loading a big-screen television into a car and driving away.
An officer saw the suspect’s vehicle driving on Pikes Peak Avenue and followed it until other officers arrived and ordered the vehicle to pull over.
A suspect ran from the vehicle. An officer chased the suspect, who jumped over a fence and began running down a steep embankment.
The suspect then jumped from a ledge about 20 feet high. Police say two soldiers and two truck drivers confronted the suspect after watching the officer chase him.
Officers were able to arrest the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jody Kennedy. Kennedy had only minor scrapes from the 20-foot jump.
An investigation revealed that the television was not stolen and that no burglary had occurred. Although While Kennedy was cleared of those charges, he was booked on unrelated charges, police said.
