A 24-year-old Northglenn woman faces felony child abuse and assault charges, on top of a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, in a March 31 crash into two parked cars in the 4500 block of Clay Street.
Prosecutors said Valencia Maria Lucero ran away from the wreckage. One of the two children in her car, a 6-year-old girl, was badly injured.
Police dogs found Lucero sometime later, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said today, in announcing the charges.
The 6-year-old was rushed to a hospital with serious bodily injuries.
This is Lucero’s second drunken-driving charge. She agreed to plead guilty to driving while abilities impaired, after initially being charged with driving under the influence, in 2006.
She also has a May court date on an unrelated traffic offense in Adams County in February, in which she is accused of exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 mph. She pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended licenses in Adams County in 2008, records show.
Lucero remains in jail under $25,000 bond. She will be formally advised on the charges against her at a hearing Thursday morning.
