CLIFTON, Colo.—Authorities in western Colorado say the father of an infant who died feared the girl had taken one his missing painkillers.
The Daily Sentinel reported details of the case against 30-year-old Manuel Rivera on Wednesday based on an affidavit for his arrest.
The affidavit said the 17-month-old girl was unresponsive when police were called to her home in Clifton on March 6. Rivera allegedly told police he got two OxyContin pills from a friend and noticed one on the floor of his bedroom March 5. He allegedly looked for the other one but couldn’t find it.
The affidavit said the infant and her sister had been playing in the room.
A toxicology report showed the infant had about 13 times the normal dose of the narcotic recommended for a child in her system.
