DENVER—Denver Public Schools is expecting a $25 million drop in state aid, but plans to pump $10 million more into schools next year and add as many as 150 teaching positions.
Colorado lawmakers will likely cut school funding by about $228 million next year because of a budget shortfall, prompting districts statewide to reduce their own budgets.
But Denver school officials said Tuesday that they’ve proposed using money they had asked schools to hold onto as a contingency and divert funds from central services, including transportation and spending for facilities. The district also plans to use savings from its pension financing. District officials say finances have been helped by $80 million in grants and increased enrollment.
The district will present the final budget to the school board in June. .
