DENVER—Senate Democrats rejected three Republican proposals that would have asked Colorado voters to approve tighter citizenship checks, including a measure to require elected officials to provide proof of citizenship before taking office.
A Democratic-led committee on Monday killed the measures, which Republicans wanted to refer to voters.
The other proposals would have allowed elections officials to require proof of citizenship and stiffen worker-eligibility requirements for employers.
Republicans said they wanted voters to decide those issues because similar GOP proposals have been repeatedly blocked in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
