The Elway’s location in Cherry Creek has a summer music series that is inexplicably popular. Sure, the steakhouse’s back patio is a decent place to see a show, and some of the acts are understandably popular. But if you ask me, this year’s line-up — released this morning — is a bit heavy on the cover bands.

Denver’s thriving local music community is strong enough that a series like this shouldn’t have to rely on bands playing other people’s music. That said, we understand the appeal of making a night of martinis and old-school Police songs.

More importantly: Will you catch us shakin’ it to Bop Skizzum’s original funk compositions on the restaurant’s patio this summer? There is a very good chance, yes.

Here’s this summer’s line-up:

June 22: Opie Gone Bad

June 29: The Parkside Band

July 6: Bop Skizzum

July 13: Something Underground

July 20: Diamonds are Forever

July 27: Message in a Bottle

August 3: Funkiphino

August 10: New Sensations

August 17: That Eighties Band

August 24: Under a Blood Red Sky
