DENVER—A final report from aviation investigators says the pilots of two small planes failed to see each other before they crashed in the air over Colorado last year, killing all three people aboard.
One plane was towing a glider at the time of the Feb. 26, 2010, crash. The glider landed safely.
A National Transportation Safety Board report released last week says overcast skies and terrain in the background would have made it hard for the pilots to see each other. It also says neither plane may have appeared to be moving to the other.
The dead were identified as 25-year-old Alexander Howard Gilmer of Evergreen, the pilot of the tow plane; 58-year-old Robert Matthews of Boulder, piloting the other plane; and his brother, 56-year-old Mark A. Matthews of Englewood.
