
A former Longmont stable manager accused of bilking friends and others in the Boulder County community of thousands of dollars pleaded guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor check fraud.
Colleen Speno, 44, was accused of soliciting thousands of dollars in loans from friends and people with whom she worked in the horse boarding community and either failing to pay back those loans or offering bad checks to pay the debts.
She was initially arrested on suspicion of 97 theft and fraud counts. After investigating the case further, prosecutors ultimately filed 12 counts of felony check fraud, five counts of misdemeanor check fraud, four counts of felony theft, and two counts of misdemeanor theft.
She pleaded guilty to one of the felony theft counts and one count of misdemeanor check fraud on Tuesday morning.
